CALL in language education

 CALL in language education

Benefits of CALL

It is focused on individualization, which means developing the skills of every student.

Also, it promotes the use of the target language.

CALL usage is more interesting and engaging rather than other approaches.

Some other features are:

  • A compatible learning style
  • Immediate feedback
  • Optimal use of learning time
  • Error análisis
  • Guided and repetitive practice
  • Pre-determined to process syllabus

Disadvantages of CALL

Call can become a distraction for students while they are learning due to the opportunities that a student has with the use of ICT tools.

It is too expensive which means that just a few percent of students will have the materials and resources needed to apply this approach.

Students might depend too much on technology, which means without the Internet they will not work.

Some other characteristics are:

  • Less-handy equipment.
  • Increased educational costs.
  • Lack of trained teachers.
  • Imperfect current CALL programs
  • Inability to handle unexpected situations
